AFFILIATED PROGRAMS ARDC is affiliated with a number of active anti-racism groups and is pleased to list their programs in the section below. _________________________________________________________ AFFILIATED PROGRAMS A Program (or Service) on "The MIDDLE PASSAGE" A group based at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington have a powerful program (that can also be used in place of a church service) that they are committed to sharing in as many places as possible: "The Middle Passage" was the journey of African slaves from the coast of Africa to the Americas. It was a part of a triangle of trade and a horrific part of American history. The program consists of readings, songs and a dance, and depicts the history of the African enslavement from the villages in Africa to the slave plantations in America. "We look at this moment in history as a reality that we must acknowledge if we are to move on in our understanding and accepting of one another. This program is one step towards healing the wounds of the past in reconciliation so that we can move ahead to a meaningful future." The leaders and designers of this program are from a group based at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington, NY. They have studied the subject in depth and have given numerous workshops and lectures. This program has been presented at the following UU churches: at Bellport, Watermill, Shelter Rock, Muttontown, Freeport, and Huntington on Long Island; and at Morristown, Plainfield and Englewood in New Jersey. The program has also been given in a number of public libraries. For further information, please contact, Helen Boxwill at helenbox@optonline.net or at 631-549-9346. |
